China and Seychelles Signed Low Carbon Pilot Project Documents
2017/10/29

On 27 October 2017, a technical agreement for the implementation of the low carbon pilot project in Seychelles was signed by the director of New Energy Department of China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI) Ms. Zhang Jiali and Wills Agricole, principal secretary in the department of energy and climate change.

The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry for Environment, Energy and Climate Change in Victoria in the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles H.E. Mme. Yu Jinsong and Minister Didier Dogley.

The signing of the agreement was in accordance with the MoU on the ‘Low Carbon Pilot for Addressing Climate Change’ signed between National Development and Reform Commission (NDEC) of China and Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change (MEECC) of Seychelles on 23 May 2017.

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at the opening ceremony of the Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015 that China would help construct 10 low carbon pilot zones in developing countries. The project in Seychelles is of great significance as it is the first one to fulfil the commitment. China will help Seychelles improve its ability to cope with climate change by providing ideas, supplies and personnel training. It will also explore good experience for construction of low carbon pilot zones in other countries.
